“Classic Glamour Photography“, by Iain Banks, devotes its first half to a series of profiles of top professionals, mostly British or European, in the Glamour Photography field. Each profile shows off several photographs by that particular pro and discusses what makes their style and vision unique.
It’s a shame that nobody’s done a book like this with some of the top photographers in the USA. I’d like to see, as I’m sure would many other photographers, a similar profile featuring some of the various Playboy & Penthouse veterans from the past few decades, like Ken Marcus, Arny Frietag, Earl Miller, Richard Fegley, Suze Randall, or Pompeo Posar, just to name a few.
The second half of the book is a primer for the aspiring glamour photographer. In some ways, it feels like a much more technically oriented version of John Kelly’s Successful Glamour Photography, but that’s not too surprising since John Kelly provided about half of the photographs in this section. This section is well written, and if anything it’s a shame it’s not a bit longer.
